"She is such a sweet and loving girl and the FOHA volunteers did a lot to nurture her sweetness. I am very grateful for the excellent care she had while she was waiting for me to come along and adopt her."

"About 13 years ago, my then 12 year old son began to volunteer on the weekends with FOHA. It wasn’t long before Ann Lewis was asking me to let him bring home “Treasure”, a collie mix who had been so badly abused that only my small-for-his-age son was able to him. She wanted him to come to live with us “just until he can be socialized”. This poor dog lived in constant terror, especially of my husband and older son. One day in sheer frustration, my husband went over to the shelter and asked for an old dog who could be a mentor to “Treasure”. Tha’s how we got “Timmy”…the supposedly “old” dog. Timmy was just the opposite of Treasure. The world was his oyster. He refused to let anything dampen his enormous zest for life. Sometimes he would just run around the yard out of sheer joy. He took Treasure under his wing and showed him how to enjoy life and people. Treasure would sit back while Timmy would approach people and then he would slowly approach. It took several years, but Treasure did eventually come out of his shell. He was devoted to the family.
Timmy refused to give up his life. At eighteen, his poor little body could just not go on any longer. It just gave out on him and it broke our hearts to lose him. He taught all of us so much about loving life…just for fun…..about just being determined to be happy. He died in my arms, peacefully.
Two years later we lost Treasure to cancer. He had really been missing Timmy and I think that at age 16 now, he was ready to go. He also died in my arms. I miss them both terribly.
FOHA cats and dogs are all “treasures”."

"Ellie joined our family and now we can't imagine life without her. She is an absolute treasure!"

"Jack continues to amaze us with his personality….other than a shoe fettish (and since when is a love of fashion a bad thing?!?!) we’ve found no faults in him. He makes me smile and has already given me his unconditional love & devotion….and for me, that’s what a dog is all about."

"He gets compliments all the time on how pretty he is, and also he is the biggest love bug and attention hound. He let a little girl one day just love and hug all over him. Take care and know he is severely loved. =0)"

"But she is very affectionate, loves to be petted and told how beauuuutiful she is and how much I love her. In the evening, she curls up on the ottoman within easy petting distance and reaches out her little paws to me. My heart just melts!"

Miss Daisy, adopted in December 2007, is having so much fun in her new home and absolutely adores her family!

"I've got to say he's one of the best dogs I've ever had. He's such a good dog and really likes to please. Thanks to you and all the great folks who work to save these wonderful dogs."
